This program is two semesters in length and consists of theory and clinical experience.  Students completing this certificate will acquire the employment skills, knowledge, and abilities for an entry level position as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy.  After successful program completion, the student is eligible for California State Pharmacy Technician registration.  State application fees will apply.

Students upon enter of Pharmacy Technician program, a background check is required.  

ENTRY-LEVEL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:  Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be prepared for employment in hospital based pharmacy and retail pharmacy.

Q: Where can I order my background & Drug Screen?

A:  Background and Drug Screen, After you order your background through link must pick up a Dug Testing Custody & Control form from the Allied Health Office, located in the John Muir building room 125.

Q: Where do I go for my American Heart Association BLS CPR card? 

A: You could register for COS HLTH 406- CPR for Health Care Providers, or you could through Visalia BLS CPR Card Schedule.

Q: What are the immunizations that I need? Where can I find the Pharmacy technician physical form? 

A: Immunization for the Pharmacy Technician Program are listed below. Immunization need to be complete by the second week of the spring semester.  


·         TB Skin Test clearance: 2-step process is required at start of program (used for initial skin testing of adult healthcare providers), yearly thereafter.
If a PPD reactor, provide copy of Chest X-Ray results to the Health Center at the Visalia Campus. If the X-Ray is over 12 months old, a surveillance form from a physician stating the student is asymptomatic may be accepted.
·         MMR(Measles/Mumps/Rubella) vaccine: 2 doses or positive titer
·         Hepatitis B: 3 doses or positive titer
·         Varicella (Chicken Pox): 2 doses or positive titer
·         Td/Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) vaccine : All adults who have completed a primary series of a tetanus/diphtheria containing product (DTP, DTaP, DT, Td) should receive Td boosters every 10 years.
·        Influenza Vaccine​
