​My Library Account

WorldCat, the COS Library's online catalog, has two account options: Library Account and WorldCat Account.

Library Account

You can manage your checkouts and holds through your Library Account. To access your Library Account, click on the ​Library Account (Sign In) option in the top right corner. You will be prompted for your COS Universal Login.

Viewing Your Checkouts, Holds, and Charges

After you have logged in to your library account, click on the Library Account link in the top right corner of the page. On your Library Account page, you will see three tabs: Checkouts, Holds, and Charges. Click each tab to view your account information. You can renew books on the Checkouts tab.

Placing a Hold

If an item that you'd like to borrow is currently checked out, you can place a hold on the item. As soon as the item is returned to the library, you will receive an email notifying that the item is ready for you. The item will be held for seven days before it is returned to the general collection.
To place a hold, navigate to the item's page. Click on the Place Hold button:​
You will be asked to select your pick up location (Visalia, Hanford, or Tulare). After selecting your location, click on Submit. The library will email you when your item is ready.​

WorldCat Account

With a WorldCat Account, you can create and share lists of books and other items found at the COS Library and at other institutions. You can save search results and even add reviews to books. To create a WorldCat Account, click on the ​WorldCat (Sign In) option in the top right corner. Select Create an account now​ and follow the steps to set up your WorldCat Account. Your WorldCat Account is ​not connected to your COS Universal Login, and you can use any email address to sign up.

Adding Items to a List

You can create lists in WorldCat to share with your students or other instructors. After signing in your WorldCat Account, search for an item using the top search bar. When you have found an item you'd like to add to a list, check the box next to the item description. At the top of the search results, look for ​Save to: [New List]. You can select a list from the dropdown. If you want to create a new list, select [New List] and click Save. You will be prompted to choose a list name and select a privacy level.​

Sharing a List

After logging in to your WorldCat Account, look for the ​My WorldCat dropdown menu at the top of the screen. Select My Lists. You will see all of the lists you have created under your WorldCat Account. Click on the title of the list you want to share and then click on the Share link near the top of the page. Enter the name and email address for up to five people and click Send Invitation. If you want to post a link to your list online, copy the link underneath the suggested message. Your list must be public if you want to share it with other people.
